BRENDA DELAMAIN grew up in England where, early on her mother died and she was made a war evacuee to the country. She trained as a nurse and came to New Zealand to work in the Hokitika hospital. She married a West Coast farmer; they moved about the country then settled for 30 years in Kerikeri. She was widowed three years ago.
Brenda has written stories and poems for children, plays, lyrics for a musical, and a series of short stories for children. Reading history has been 'an abiding passion' and she researched avidly to create Lizzie, love, scouring James Kemp's journals and reference books, interviewing his great-grandson and reading missionaries' letters at the Hocken Library.
