Carolyn McCurdie was born in England, but came to New Zealand with her family in 1950, when she was three. She grew up in Dunedin, and lived for several years in Auckland, and on Waiheke Island. She has also lived for a short time in Australia. When she was on Waiheke, she was part owner of a boat shed, without a boat. In her working life, she has been a teacher, a postie, a bank teller, and a shop assistant, among other things. Now she lives back in Dunedin where, as well as writing, she cares for her mother, and works part-time in the Blueskin Bay community library.
The Unquiet is Carolyn McCurdie’s first novel. She has had several stories published by Radio NZ and in Landfall and Takahe. In 1998 she won the Lilian Ida Smith Award and in 2002 she worked with Sue McCauley as her mentor.
