Tina Shaw is the author of five novels for adults, the most recent being The Black Madonna, published by Penguin Books in 2005. Her other novels are Paradise, City of Reeds, Dreams of America and Birdie. Shaw’s short stories have been published in many anthologies, literary journals and magazines, and she was First Runner-Up of the 2003 Sunday Star-Times Short Story Competition.
She edited a collection of travel essays by New Zealand writers called A Passion for Travel, is a former recipient of the Buddle Findlay Sargeson Fellowship, and has held the Creative New Zealand Berlin Writers’ Residency. She was Writer in Residence at the University of Waikato in 2005, and has since been writing junior and young adult fiction. She has been described as ‘a major literary talent’ in the Listener. Shaw, who is also a tutor of creative writing and occasional book reviewer, lives in Auckland.

‘About Griffen’s Heart was inspired by the true story of a young man with a bad heart who did something very brave. Although James is a bit of a wimp in many respects, he is also capable of acting selflessly, and that was something I wanted to capture in this novel. |
