William Taylor is one of New Zealand's foremost novelists for young people. Formerly a school teacher, he has made his living as a writer of humorous and more serious fiction for fifteen years, during which time he has published more than thirty novels. These include multiple award-winning Agnes the Sheep, the comic Knitwits series, Possum Perkins and The Blue Lawn.
He has won the New Zealand Esther Glen Medal, the Aim Children's Book Award and the prestigious Italian Premio Andersen Award for best children's book of the year. He is also the recipient of the New Zealand Children's Book Foundation Margaret Mahy Medal and has held fellowships at the Palmerston North and Dunedin Colleges of Education and at the University of Iowa.
In 1999 the American edition of The Blue Lawn was released to critical acclaim, including a starred review in 'The Horn Book' and has been shortlisted for a Lambda Award. His powerful novel, Jerome, was published in New Zealand by Longacre Press, and by Alyson Books, Los Angeles.
Jerome was shortlisted for the 2000 Lamda Awards in the US. Scarface and the Angel, was released in October 2000. His most recent novel, Spider was published by Longacre Press in 2002.
William Taylor is the father of two sons and has a grandson. He lives in a spectacular setting near Mt Ruapehu in the central North Island of New Zealand and is the current President of the NZ Society of Authors.
